Oh the joys of not sleeping

So it's about 3:30 in the am...been up for the last hour laying in bed, and finally thought I should at least do something useful with my time. So here I am. Almost every night, I wake up around 2 or 3 and don't usually fall back asleep for several hours. I wish I could blame it on crying babies, or maybe even a really uncomfortable matress. But nope, I just wake up, even if I'm really tired. So frustrating.
I'm partaking in quite a few "natural remedies". But nothing is quite doing the trick yet. I've been off sleeping pills for the last year, and do not desire to go back on again cuz they make me a little mean. Does anyone out there have some suggestions that don't necessarily include a shot of vodka or pharmaceuticals? Come on Abby, I'm sure you've got something for me! :-)

My mom always drinks warm milk...that helps her fall back asleep. How frustrating....

I find soy milk with ginger and cinnamon right before bed works for me. The warm milk works to but I find the alternative more tasty. My acupunturist also suggested concentrating on the bottom of your feet. Souns weird I know, but it has knocked me out more than a couple times. :)

Have you tried taking Melatonin? It's natural and great for jet lag and helping you to sleep...

That sucks Kellie! I'm sorry! I don't have any ideas then to wake Mark up and make him give you a back rub or something. :)

Here's one...start praying starting with the letter A and then work your way through the alphabet. For instance you could pray for Andrew, then Bruce or Bodie, then Chris, then D, E, etc. It works for me. It doesn't have to be a person, it can be a place or a need. God won't be mad at you if you fall asleep before you are done with the alphabet. It's just calming and peaceful and pretty soon you will be fast asleep.
Plus I'll be praying for you!
Love,
Momma C

I am an insomniac, but not like you. Once I fall asleep, I totally stay asleep. But getting to sleep can take hours.

I am doing Melatonin right now, about 20 minutes before sleeping. I'm sure you've tried that! I know you said you don't want sleeping pills, but if you haven't tried Ambien, I suggest looking into it.
